Job Description

As a trusted systems integrator for more than 20 years, ADS IT Solutions provides information technology (IT), systems engineering, professional services and simulation and training to customers in the health, state and local government, and commercial sectors. The company delivers IT enterprise solutions, manages mid-scale, mission-critical IT programs and provides mission support services.

The person hired for the position of Lead Network Engineer will enjoy a variety of tasks in a great team environment. The primary objective of this position will be to support customer needs via phone, e-mail, on-site, or help ticket, as well as perform other tasks vital to customer service and overall operations of the organization.

The Lead Network Engineer manages, plans, secures and implements the client’s (system user’s) networking and telecommunications infrastructure, including all networking switches, routers, wireless (Wi-Fi) equipment, firewalls, telephone/voice systems and services, cellular/mobile service and video conferencing environments.  The Lead Network Engineer works with the Systems Administration Lead Technician and Purchasing Division in maintaining a relationship with telecommunication/WAN vendors and continually researches the latest technology as it applies to the current and future client data/voice/video infrastructure, needs and goals.

In support of clients (system users), he/she provides installation, maintenance and troubleshooting support of voice, video, and/or data communications equipment to include edge devices such as desktops, laptops, printers, tablets, and smart phone devices. The Lead Network Engineer coordinates with Level 1-3 operations and engineering support to resolve incidents. Works directly with customers on their IT services to include resolution of users and improvement of services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Performs related tasks such as:

  • Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of Microsoft Operating Systems
  • Monitors and responds to hardware and software problems, including third-party applications, utilizing a variety of hardware and software testing tools and techniques
  • Installs and configures network hardware and software
  • Provides network troubleshooting and support
  • Providing technical assistance to other Network Technicians and staff members
  • Provides technical support and training to end-users
  • Answers user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems
  • Enter commands and observe system functions to verify correct operations and detect errors
  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation activities
  • Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications
  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support
  • Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service
  • Develop training materials and procedures, or train users in the proper use of hardware or software
  • Administers network security
  • Backs up file server data/disks
  • Provides minor to moderately complex server maintenance
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Participates in special projects as required
  • Coordinate vendor operations
  • Provide off-hours support on a rotational basis
  • Support disaster recovery router and switch IOS management
  • Procure, manage, and implement WAN diagnostics and debugging

General Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience
  • Minimum of seven years of network administration experience in a multi-site environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation, configuration and administration of firewalls, wireless networks and broadband services
  • Ability to administer layer 2 and layer 3 devices at an advanced level
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Wireless including configuration of wireless LAN controllers is desirable
  • Self-Starter/Self Directed individual that leads with high energy and passion for customer service
  • Detail oriented team player that can also work independently with little supervision
  • Experience training others in the use of software and hardware devices
  • Operate a variety of computers, servers, peripherals and specialized software; utilize various hand and power tools as required; drive a vehicle to conduct work
  • The person hired for the position of Lead Network Technician will be located in Chillicothe, Ohio but will require the ability to travel to customer locations
  • Practical experience with ticket tracking systems (e.g. AutoTask, Service Now, CA Service Desk, Remedy)
  • Experience with Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs)

Leadership Qualifications

  • Serve as a lead over various projects, assignments and activities related to complex network installation, maintenance, repair and modification; train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff; assign employee duties, coordinate projects and review completed work for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures
  • Able to work under pressure, as service calls must be responded to promptly, diagnosed quickly, and fixed within a short time frame
  • Oversee and perform network hardware and software planning; research and evaluate new technologies for implementation; confer with users concerning system needs; test, analyze and provide recommendations concerning the purchasing and implementation of network hardware and software
  • Prepare technical reports to management on the operational state of assigned systems including an overview of system utilization, scheduled maintenance for the period, equipment needs, upgrades or replacements
  • Prepare and maintain various records and reports related to assigned activities
  • Communicate and exchange information with staff, administrators, and outside agencies to resolve issues or concerns
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, other language abilities are a plus
  • Excellent time management skills
  • The ability to understand user problems and explain technical fixes in a clear and understandable manner to users
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis
  • Must be able to occasionally move and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams and across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Effective facilitation, communication and teaching skills
  • Ability to engage and influence others
  • Ability to multi-task and handle large workloads under time constraints
  • Ability to understand and apply analytical and statistics tools

Additional (within 6 months) Qualifications

  • DoD 8570 Certification (Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program) required at hire or approved to be hired with completion NLT 6 months:
